Cath Labs- Floor Mounted vs Ceiling Mounted

If you’ve been looking to buy used Cath Labs, at Medilab Global you can see we have two different options. The Philips Allura FD20 and the GE Innova 3100 IQ, at first glance might think they are similar but the main difference between the two Cath Labs is that one is floor mounted and the other is ceiling mounted. Choosing medical imaging equipment is usually up to preference. Choosing what can work best for your facility is up to what you know you and your patients require. When making this decision it is best to see what both models have to offer.

The first thing to consider when purchasing a Cath Lab is the cath suite ceiling height. With the GE Innova 3100 IQ, the monitors and shield light will be hanging from the ceiling so it gives you more flexibility. To fully adapt the hanging components of the Cath Lab, the recommended height by GE is 9’6. The FD20 is different, the gantry and the table interact with one another, making the requirements more specific when it comes to developing a site plan. Phillips requires a height of 9’6 3/16 with a range of 3/8 to spare, but not any lower. The ceiling has to be squared and level to +/- 1/16 per 39’’.

An important part of site planning for your Cath Lab is to make sure the gantry has full movement. Both floor and ceiling-mounted Cath Labs require a ceiling structure to be installed, although one requires more than the other. The floor-mounted Cath Lab requires the structure to hold approximately 750 pounds, while a ceiling-mounted Cath Lab requires to hold about 3,700 pounds. This means heavy-duty materials must be considered when building the structure. If you require more assistance when considering these two options, don’t hesitate to contact us at Medilab Global!
